I dabble in the refinishing of furniture, painting, and my specialty – paper cutting. I tend to go crazy with recycled magazines. I thought that if I exhibited some of my original work and people liked it, it could be the start of something great.
I asked my friend, Evelina if she would be interested in doing this with me. I’d seen amazing sketches of hers and I thought she may be interested. She is also the most loving and positive person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Needless to say, I knew she would be a gem to work with! Every Thursday we would get together to work on some of our pieces, look at venues, etc. Although, sometimes we would end up cooking crepes and talking about how ridiculously good-looking Robin Thicke is instead. Either way- we had a blast!
We decided there would be no central theme, just art, for art’s sake. (Hence, the name of the exhibition. I knew there was a risk. Not only does throwing your own art exhibition come at a cost, but there is that chance that absolutely nothing comes out of it. I had nightmares of standing in an empty venue full of my art while drowning my sorrows in wine and cheese, BUT that is not what happened at all. It was indeed a success! With much support from our friends and family, we filled the place up!
Friends Deandra and Lacey (who came all the way from LA!) and my Abella!
This was the “featured artist” wall where we invited our friends and family to expose their art. (Britany’s new website is featured on the commuter on the left!)
Me pouring wine because it is the second most important thing to have at an art show!
